Privacy policy
Sieve: Web Filter. Effective 19 October 2026.
Nothing is collected
Sieve has no accounts, analytics, ads or tracking. Nothing about you, your devices or your browsing is sent to the developer or anyone else.
What stays on your device
The filter checks each connection on the device itself. Sites you block yourself are stored on the device as scrambled fingerprints; their names are kept only in encrypted form, which opens with your removal key. On a Mac, Sieve keeps a log of the sites it blocked in the last 2 hours, in memory on that Mac only. It opens only after Touch ID or the Mac's password, is cleared when the Mac restarts, and is never sent anywhere. On iPhone and iPad, Sieve keeps no record of the sites you visit or that it blocks, and keeps its settings and your list out of iCloud and computer backups.
Moving your setup
When you copy your setup to another of your devices, it goes directly between them, for example by AirDrop. Sites you blocked yourself travel only as fingerprints and encrypted names.
Downloads
Once a day Sieve downloads public blocklists directly from their publishers or their public mirrors, plus any list you add by its address. When you test a site, Sieve contacts that site once to see whether it's blocked. Those servers see an ordinary request from your device, as with any website.
